Obverse

The obverse, or front, of this bar begins with the Argor Heraeus logo. The logo is simple, with the brand name and a stylized version of the brand’s initials.

Directly beneath the logo, the word “Switzerland” is inscribed to identify the country of origin of the bar and the refiner. Then, the bar’s weight, fine gold identifier, and purity are stamped in successive rows.

Finally, the assayer’s stamp and the bar’s serial number finish out the obverse of the bar.

Reverse

The reverse, or back, of the bar is unadorned with any kind of design marks. Though smaller bars may have more intricate designs, it is not unusual for kilo gold bars to come with blank reverses.

The nice thing about a blank reverse on a cast bar, however, is that it allows the organic design created by the casting process to shine through. Each bar bears a unique design from the process, or, at the very least, unique to each production run.

So, even though there is no specific engraving on the bar, there is a design on the reverse, nonetheless. In a way, it’s much more interesting than any sort of perfunctory stamp.

1 Kilo Argor Heraeus Gold Bar Pricing and Premiums

As premiums go for 1-kilogram bars, the Argor Heraeus is slightly more expensive than the average. However, the variation between the most and least expensive bars on the market is less than $1,000. Given that these bars are each worth tens of thousands of dollars apiece, a few hundred one way or the other is unlikely to make a difference in your decision.

Where to Buy 1 Kilo Argor Heraeus Gold Bar

Argor Heraeus is a well-known Swiss precious metals refiner. Thus, finding Argor Heraeus gold bars is a common occurrence, and this bar is available across a wide variety of precious metals dealers. Since there are so many dealers selling this bar, we’d like to highlight our picks for some of the best in the business:

  • JMBullion.com - JM Bullion is the cream of the crop. It has sold billions of dollars of gold, silver, and other precious metals. There are nearly 400k positive reviews or testimonials on the site from its loyal customers.
  • ProvidentMetals.com - Provident Metals sees precious metals as a key to a brighter future. It has completed millions of precious metals orders and has a stellar 4.9-star rating from Google reviews.

Compare prices on other 1 kilogram gold bars

The Argor Heraeus is an excellent choice for a 1 kilogram gold bar. However, there are several other worthy candidates if you’d like to keep your options open. Some of the most comparable gold bars include:

  • 1 Kilo Engelhard Gold Bar (Secondary Market)
  • 1 Kilo PAMP Suisse Gold Bar (New, Cast w/ Assay)
  • 1 Kilo (RCM) Royal Canadian Mint Gold Bar

Investor Considerations and Appeal

The 1 Kilo Argor Heraeus gold bar comes with an obvious barrier to entry for most investors: its price. Based on the current spot price for gold, there is no purchasing this bar without investing more than $80,000. Most people, regardless of their experience level with precious metals investing, simply don’t have that kind of free cash lying around.

However, for those who do have the resources, this bar is an excellent purchase. It is a high-quality product from one of the world’s top producers and comes with the security of knowing that it is a rock-solid and authentic product. In fact, the Argor Heraeus name may help in the resale process.

It’s also best to buy gold in bulk whenever possible. In terms of unit price, the bigger the bar, the better purchase it will be. In a way, this bar is much more cost-effective than buying an equivalent amount of smaller bars or, much less, an equivalent amount of gold coins.
